Fall back, Spring forward
As I sit here to write about the past months I realize they have flown by in the wink of an eye. The clocks went back last weekend here in England and we are truly on our way to winter now being the beginning of November. My friends in Quebec, Canada where I lived for many years are only four hours difference instead of the usual five hours. This will change in a few weeks when their clocks ‘fall back’. I am happy that I made the long awaited journey to see friends and family in Quebec, so a huge thank you to those dear and fabulous people. I am always happy to return to my studio with fresh inspiration and new drawings in my sketch books.
Courses
Courses have been in full swing in the past summer months and into the Autumn. I have just posted new dates for stained glass courses to begin in January 2023. Please contact me if you would like to learn the art of stained glass but cannot see a date that’s suitable. I am currently giving courses at my studio for up to three people. Sometimes people come for private one on one courses too. I love smaller groups and also giving people more time to ask questions or discuss materials or ways of working is also rewarding. Please check my courses page if you are interested to learn about the techniques of stained glass painting or just want to make a beautiful panel with lovely coloured glass.
Commissions
I have been making various new commissions. Big ones and small ones. I love designing new work. Recently I completed a window for a fabulous couple for their coach house near Hackney in London, England. They commissioned me to make a wonderful stained glass for their marriage. It is a homage to Henri Matisse which sits high up in the brick wall with the doors beneath that lead out to the garden.
I have made many repairs and some restorations for private residences, front doors and 1930’s stained glass windows. I love the variation of restoring older panels that need one new piece of glass or renewing the panel with lead. My commissions are an array of repairs and new works which are always very interesting. My current commission is a set of stained glass windows for a 1930’s house in Corsham. Two larger panels go either side the front door and the six smaller panels are going to be installed into it. I have been studying foxes, drawing and painting them for the commissions. I realized in the past week that a family of foxes have been visiting my garden at night which is a wonderful paralell in my universe !
