Challenges and Gratefulness
It has been a challenging last year in many ways for us all. Hope is on the horizon so that in the next few months we should all see a better pathway as Covid 19 loosens it’s grip. Stained Glass commissions continue to be designed and made here in the studio. Private commissions and also repairs to existing glazing in between other works. I have several new commissions, one in Wimbledon, London and a transom window in a fabulous Edwardian doorway which is local to where I work. Currently I am happily painting and staining the stained glass ‘Sunrise’ window for Haslington house in Malvern.
Working through covid has sometimes met with challenges. As a community we all pull together to support each other and we feel so grateful for wonderful suppliers. English Antique glass, Pearson’s glass Liverpool, Lamberts glass Germany and Creative glass guild in Bristol also Lead and Light in Camden, London to name a few. You are all amazing and I couldn’t do what I do without you. Thank you !!
Commissions
Completing the wonderful commission for the front doors in Rickmansworth was great. My clients were very excited and happy to see it installed. Mr and Mrs Ellis wanted bright colours to reflect a red and orange sunrise. I enjoyed every minute of the designing and building of these windows which are now installed but not yet photographed. I hope to make a visit in the Spring to see the stained glass in it’s new home in the hallway. My clients feedback has been amazing they are very happy with the result and gave me a glowing report. Thank you!
Moving and courses
Moving house and building a new studio is exciting and in time to welcome students in March and for my business to continue creating stained glass windows. Courses have been set to begin at the end of March, this will hopefully be a better time for everyone. In my current studio is a painting of a landscape on glass for clients at Haslington house, Malvern. This incredible house is straight out of the Arts and Crafts movement of the last 19th century. William Morris wallpaper lines the walls and gorgeous wooden paneling adorns the walls of the music room. The stained glass is for the bathroom, ‘the sunrise’ panel is a circular shape within a square shape. Animals and plants adorn the foreground and a bright yellow sunshine filters through the surround of oak leaves, hawthorn leaves and berries. Every commission is different and depends on it’s position in a room, the light and the subject matter.
Working Life and an Award
Stained Glass Annie Mulholland won an award just before Christmas ! Prestige Awards made contact and put Stained Glass Annie Mulholland before a panel of judges for over a month before deciding that I had won the Stained Glass designer of the year 2020/2021 for the South West of England ! I was so honored to receive such rewarding comments and this award really is heart warming. In the late Spring I will be invited to receive my certificate in person and I shall have an article about my work in the Prestige awards booklet which can be found in airport lounges and many businesses across the UK and Europe.
It is chilly and frosty here in the mornings, ice covers the water on the buckets in the yard and I have to warm up the place and myself with hot drinks. Take care everybody, keep well and cosy, best wishes to you all !
