I went for a walk today the 26th December down by the Avon and Kennet Canal. All the narrow boats and barges were tucked into the muddy bank, curtains or blinds drawn tight smoke curling from the stacks, not much sign of life. It speaks volumes at this time of year when the days are still fairly dark and either bitter winds or damp cold rain pours steadily down the window panes.
